Reproductive endocrinology is a subspecialty of obstetrics-gynecology that deals with reproductive disorders and infertility issues of men and women. Because the issues surrounding infertility can be medically complex and emotionally challenging, these subspecialists receive an additional three years training to help determine infertility causes and deliver effective solutions, including assisted reproductive technology such as in vitro fertilization. Reproductive endocrinologists also perform surgery to reverse tubal ligations, vasectomies, and other patient and laboratory procedures to restore or increase fertility in men and women.
