Internal Medicine
Primary Care Physicians

Internal medicine physicians (also called internists) diagnose and provide adults with nonsurgical treatment for conditions of the body's internal systems, excluding the skin and nervous system. General internal medicine physicians serve teens through adults by preventing, finding and treating illnesses. They often act as primary care physicians, coordinating a patient's care even when other doctors are involved.

Internal medicine physicians who choose to focus on specific conditions or a particular organ system may undergo additional training in subspecialties that include: cardiology (heart) related specialties; oncology (cancer); critical care; endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism; gastroenterology (digestive tract); geriatric medicine; hematology (blood); infectious disease; nephrology (kidney); pulmonology (respiratory tract); and rheumatology (muscles, joints and tendons).

Sutter Physicians Alliance internal medicine physicians are located throughout the region to provide adults with easy, convenient access to lifelong care.
